All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for 15 hours a week of free Nursery provision from the term after their 3rd birthday. Some children also qualify for 30 free hours. At The Avenue the 15 hour offer can be taken by accessing five morning or five afternoon Nursery sessions. We try to allocate a morning or afternoon to match parental choice but this can’t be guaranteed. We work very closely with Parkway Day Nursery. They are located on the school site and are able to cater for a variety of needs including full-time care, additional 15 hours if parents qualify for 30 hours free childcare and breakfast /afterschool club. They can also offer 15 hours of Nursery provision if our school Nursery is full.
Mrs Palmer in the main office deals with all enquiries for Nursery places. We ask that all parents fill in a Nursery application form so accurate application records can be kept. Choosing where to send your child to Nursery is a big decision and you are welcome to make an appointment to come and have a look round school.
Depending on the current class size, your child may be offered a place when they turn three or it may be the following September. Places for Nursery are allocated on a priority system with children who are in the school catchment area having first refusal, followed by those who have siblings already in school and then those who apply from outside the catchment area.
The term before your child starts Nursery you will be invited to a new starter meeting where you will be given all the information you need to ensure a smooth transition. This will also provide an opportunity to visit the Nursery setting, ask any questions and discuss necessary information about your child with the class teacher.
Although we encourage all parents to apply for their child to stay with us for full- time school, please be aware that attending our school Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception. All Reception applications are managed by the Local Authority. Applications for Reception places are made between November and January in the school year your child turns four.
